2026 Tax Commitment

At their meeting on July 6th, the Board of Selectmen set the tax rate for the FY2026 budget. Factoring in the use of carryforwards, real estate valuation increases, and the use of an additional $100,000 of Undesignated Fund Balance, the Board settled on $13.75 per $1,000 of valuation for the Commitment. This is a $2.20 increase from prior year and will equate to around $220 per $100,000 in taxes.

There were several driving factors to this increase: The RSU FY2025-26 levy for Minot resulted in a fiscal year increase of $271,593; the County payment was an upward adjustment of $46,717; and, the Town’s budget increase was approximately $142,000 over the previous year’s budget but over $284,000 was used from Town revenues and designated funds to offset the impact.

The Board and staff are very aware of the financial burden this may have on many residents in the community. We want to remind you that there are several resources available to help such as making sure that you are utilizing all the available tax exemptions that are available to you or find out whether there are any programs that you may qualify for. The Town also accepts prepayments on taxes so that you can break your payments into smaller manageable amounts. Please check the Town’s website or contact the office for additional information.
