100% Disabled Vet Law Change
The below law, effective 5/30/2025, will affect 100% disabled veterans who were previously receiving the excise tax/ registration exemption on more than 3 vehicles. As you come to register your vehicles the Clerks will help you navigate the change. If you have any questions, please reach out.
CHAPTER 152 (LD 1581)
“AN ACT REGARDING THE MOTOR VEHICLE EXCISE TAX AND REGISTRATION FEES EXEMPTION FOR CERTAIN VETERANS”
Emergency enacted, effective 5/30/2025
> 100% disabled veterans may receive an excise tax exemption on no more than 3 automobiles.
> An eligible veteran may receive a registration exemption on no more than 3 vehicles.
> The qualifying veteran must be the titled owner of the automobile.
> Motor homes and camper trailers are not included in the definition of automobile, so they are not eligible for the exemption.
> The qualifying veteran is not required to display at disabled veteran license plate.
