Vital Records

The State of Maine does not fill vital requests over the phone or via email.

You must come in in person or mail the Vital Request Form and required information to:

  • Certified Copies

$15 for the 1st copy and $6 for each additional copy the same day

A request form will have to be filled out and you will have to have proof of I.D. and something showing that you have direct interest in the record for all Birth, Death, and Marriage certified copies

 

  • Non-Certified Copies

$10 each page requested

  • Disposition Permit 

$20 per permit

  • Marriages
With the amount of time it takes to complete a marriage license we encourage people to call and make an appointment to make sure staff is available.

Step 1: Intentions

We will need to see proof of identification and, if you have been married before, we will need to see proof of how that marriage ended. Examples could be a sealed & certified divorce decree or a certified death certificate.

Both parties need to be present when the intentions are signed or they must be notarized and returned to the office.

There is a $40 fee at the time the intentions are completed.

Step 2: Marriage Licenses

We will then use your intentions to create your marriage license. 

Both parties will need to be present when the actual license is issued so each party can sign.

The whole process takes about 30 to 45 minutes to complete and you can leave with your license the same day.

Once you have your license you have 90 days to get married. The cut off date is listed on your license.

The person preforming your ceremony will return the license to our office within 7 days of the marriage.

When we receive the license back we will update all of the information and call one of the parties so you can come get certified copies. (Please see the fees above)

  • Ceremonies

We can also preform marriages here in the office!

Please let us know ahead of time and bring 2 witnesses with you.

We have vows available for ceremonies with or without rings. They are very straight forward and basic vows. If you would like to add your own vows please let us know ahead of time.

This process can take up to an hour.
